A: <\/strong>Yes, it affects children. An estimated 20-30% of the Indian population suffers from at least one or the other form of allergy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Q What are the common symptoms?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

A:<\/strong> Allergy can manifest with various symptoms of which following are the common ones-<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. Skin rashes or hives, itchy<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. Difficulty breathing \/ breathlessness<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  3. Sneezing, coughing, a runny nose or itchy eyes<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  4. Stomach pain, bloating, vomiting, loose stools<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  5. Behavioural Changes\/irritability<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  6. Anaphylaxis: One of the most severe reactions is anaphylaxis, which can be lifethreatening. Symptoms include difficulty breathing, swelling of the face or throat, rapid heartbeat, and a sudden drop in blood pressure. Immediate medical attention is critical in such cases.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    Q What are the common triggers which can initiate the allergy?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    A<\/strong>: A trigger or \u2018the inciting agent\u2019 can be anything in our indoor or outdoor environment or from the food items , itself , what we consume.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    1. Outdoors: pollens, insect bites or stings, seasonal allergies<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n
    2. Indoors: pet or animal hair or fur, dust mites, moulds<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n
    3. Irritants: cigarette smoke, perfume, car exhaust<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n
    4. Foods: peanuts, eggs, shellfish, soy, wheat<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n
