Overview

Dr. Somnath Chatterjee completed his MBBS (2001) and MD(Anaesthesia) (2005) from JIPMER, Pondicherry. After completion of his post-graduation, he worked in Department of Anaesthesia at JIPMER, Pondicherry for another year as Senior Resident before he left for the UK for futher education. He trained in the Department of Anaesthesia and Critical Care in Wigan and Leigh Infirmary for 18 months before he joined the Coventry School of Anaesthesia as a Registrar in Anaesthesia and Critical Care. He completed his Fellowship in Anaesthesia from the Royal College of Anaesthetists in 1998. He did an additional year as Research Registrar in Department of Anaesthesia in Heart of England NHS Foundation trust as the first Research Registrar to be sponsored by the Royal College of Anaesthetists in UK. He completed his Registrar rotation and obtained his Certificate of Completion of Specialist Training in early 2003. Soon after, he joined the Department of Anaesthesia and Critical Care in Heart of England Foundation NHS Trust as Consultant in Anaesthesia and Critical Care with a job profile reflecting his interest in Thoracic and major Vascular Anaesthesia.
He returned to India in early 2006 to join the Manipal Hospital Bangalore (Airport Road) as the Head of Department of Critical Care. He worked in Manipal Hospital Bangalore to 5 years including 9 months as the Head of Emergency Medicine (additional responsibility). In early 2012, he took up the position of Senior Consultant in Critical Care in JurongHealth (Ng Teng Fong General Hospital – 1100 bed new Hospital in the western part of the Island of Singapore funded by the MOH, Singapore) to pursue his passion to be a part of a startup establishment. He returned to Bangalore n 2019 to be part of the management and Clinical team at Prakriya Hospitals. His main areas of interest are Clinical quality and excellence, training, airway management in anaesthesia and Critical Care.
